Here is a new mixed media painting that is now hanging in the gallery. It is 36 x 48 (I think). I used a combination of watercolor, acrylic and coffee.

I hope to do much better this year with my blog postings. I was pretty awful in 2010. I guess I was just worn out in the fall with preparations for my encaustic show. It's a new year now, and I'm ready to tackle new painting challenges. I've been working on some palette knife paintings lately. Some will be hanging in the gallery soon.

Heavy Snow

We had a surprise heavy snow so I immediately went out with my camera to capture it. This painting is much larger than my other snow paintings, 16 x 20, and has some acrylic mixed in with the watercolor.

Spring Chicken (?)

Okay, well, he is a rooster. I decided to paint a little something different from my snow scenes. I guess I'm wishing for spring. Won't be much longer.

Blue Skies

When the blue sky finally appeared after the ice storm, the ice on the trees glistened in the sun. It was beautiful.

I should be more diligent in my blogging. September was just a busy month in all things art. I failed to take pictures of a few of my recent paintings, in my zeal to get them to the gallery, but here are a few. I'm doing much larger things now. I seem to prefer the 30 x 40 or 36 x 48 inch format... and my house is really smelling of beeswax! Encaustic everywhere! This first painting is acrylic.

Well, I guess people liked my coffee paintings. I only have one left. I sold one at My Color Image, two at Intown, and two are on hold at Intown. That's great because I really enjoy the medium. Better get to work.

I've been doing some paintings using coffee as my medium. Once again I have failed to have my camera handy when I finish a painting. I have already matted them and whisked them away to the galleries. Stop by Intown or My Color Image for a view. Coffee lends a antique look to the subject.

Lots going on in my studio! I'm so inspired to paint. I think it's because spring is just around the corner and the daffodills are opening up. Here are some recent landscapes (and one giant abstract thrown in for good measure) of various media. "Virginia Trees", pastel, 16" x 20"; "Lost Landscape", 20" x 16", mixed media. I don't think it's a new direction. I just find myself wanting to explore the limits of paint, content, value, mood....pretty much every aspect of painting. It used to be a challenge to see if I could represent the world that was in front of me. Now I find myself interpreting that world more and more."Secure", mixed media, 46" x 40".

I have been going back to my encaustic work. Encaustic actually means, "burning in." Basically it is using pigments that are suspended in wax. I like to mix my oil paints with the beeswax. it gives them an ethereal quality. Most of these paintings are small (12" x 12") or smaller
